Medusa - The Gorgon

There are many ways of playing Medusa. Some like it shooting at machine gun speed, some like it doing 600 damage per shot. While a lot of debates are out there, i would like to share about my personal build of Medusa, a build that contains the hybrid power of a semi-tanker, a Hero-killer, and a push as well.

Let's take a look at the stats for her first, shall we ?

Split Shot (T)
Medusa magically splits her shot into three arrows. These arrows deal a lower percent of her normal damage.

Level 1 - 45% damage
Level 2 - 55% damage
Level 3 - 65% damage
Level 4 - 75% damage
Though not very powerful at early games, it's good for harrasing enemies with your 600 range. Just make sure that you don't click on heroes and triggers the creeps to attack on you. Stand within range of enemy hero. Right click on creeps, and one of the slitted shot will hit the enemy hero. DO NOT right click on hero, or else the creeps will all concentrate on attacking you. Just remember to turn off split shot when u want to concentrate your hits on a particular hero, or chasing him, so that you can deal FULL damage as well as having your orb effect carried over to the enemy hero.

Chain Lightning (C)
Hurls a bolt of damaging lightning at a target enemy that jumps to nearby enemies. Each jump deals less damage.

Level 1 - 75 damage, jumps 3 times.
Level 2 - 150 damage, jumps 5 times.
Level 3 - 225 damage, jumps 7 times.
Level 4 - 290 damage, jumps 9 times.
I personally am not a fan of this. As my build concentrates on a tanker as well, wasting mana on this spell will be contradicting with the usage of mana shield. I usually leave this till the last four levels. (level 22-25)

Mana Shield (E)
Creates a shield that absorbs 50% of the incoming damage by using Medusa's mana.

Level 1 - .75 damage per point of mana.
Level 2 - 1.25 damage per point of mana.
Level 3 - 1.5 damage per point of mana.
Level 4 - 2 damage per point of mana.
This is the spell which makes her a tanker. We want to up this spell as EARLY as possible. The way it works is pretty easy. If you have enough mana to sustain all the punishment, it will be like you are having 2x your current hp (thanks to the fact that it actually absorbs 50% of your damage).

Purge (G)
Casts a powerful anti-magic buff at a target enemy unit. Slows movement and attack speeds for 5 seconds.

Level 1 - Slows speed by a factor of 2.
Level 2 - Slows speed by a factor of 3.
Level 3 - Slows speed by a factor of 5.
Deals 1000 damage to summoned units
A very good ultimate. Usage varies from a wide range, including hero killing, escaping from death, killing summoned units, get rid of enemy's possitive buff, negates ally's negative buffs. A must !!!

Reasoning

As usual, i prefer getting a chicken first. Why? Because it helps me stay in a lane for as long as i want (if only u play safe enough). When u get hurt, get your chicken to bring you some Saphirre Flask. When you have enough money, use your chicken to buy your items, and birng it to you. When u don't have enough slots, use your chicken to store it. Simple.

You need a null talisman. Your mana isn't enough for you to sustain all the injuries, and for your to cast purge. The +6 intel, and +3 to hp/agi is nice :)

Do you best in getting all the items as stated in the listed order.

As for skillwise, put a point to your mana shield, and immediatelly activate it before you leave your fountain. It needs 50mana to activate it, so activate it, recharge at fountain, then only go to your lane.

Mid Stage (lvl 7-16)

Reasoning

Sange first before Yasha. Why? Because u will need the MAIM effect to kill and chase heroes. Maim slows enemy's attack/move speed by 35%. That's cool.
S&Y gives you the movespeed/attack speed boost.

Linken Sphere is a must. It gives you +15 to all stats. Unlike any other heroes, Medusa is a hero which benefits with all of her stats. Why? Because agility gives her faster att speed as well as high armor. HP makes a a tank, while intelligent makes her a even-more-greater-tanker with her mana shield.

As for skill, after you have maxed out all the required skills (Split shot and Mana shield), spend the rest of your skills on stats, with the exception of course to your ultimate purge, whenever the chance arrises.

HERO KILLING

After you've got your sange/S&Y, it will be easy to kill non-disabler heroes. Just do this:-

- Turn off your Split Shot (*important)
- Walk up to hero

- Purge him immediately. He will be as slow as a turtle, giving you some free 5-6 hits before the slowing effect wears off.

- Hopefully within the 5-6 hits during purge, your Sange manage to do its job by placing a main on enemy, thus slowing him by 35% for another 6sec.
- Just finish him off. If he is still alive, give chase and cast another purge on him when your purge cooldown is ready.

That's it. Pretty easy isn't it ? All you need to know is just WHICH heroes are your meal, and WHICH heroes are not meant for you. Never go head on with disablers. Choose your prey wisely. :)

End Stage(lvl 17-25)

Reasoning

Not much to say anymore. If you did well in the early/mid stages, get some kills, farm well with your split shots, you should be on your way to getting your Buriza, adding more punch and umphhh to your damage arsenal. Hero Killing is still the same. Purge-hits-Purge-hits......

A point to note here before i end this. Purge is a very good ultimate. A lot of usage to it. I hereby list down those that happened to come across my mind right now. Please do let me know if u knew any of it which i missed out.

Usage of PURGE

On Ally:-
- when ally get doomed
- when ally get poisoned
- when ally get slowed by frost/maim/anything
- when ally get stunned.
- when ally get hex/cyclone
- when ally get ruptured (by blood seeker)

On Enemy:-
- when Sven get's Overpower
- when hero get's positive buff (increase att speed / etc )
- On Lycanthrope's wolfs (immediate kill, as his wolves has less than 1000hp)
- On Syllabear's polarbear and Chen's pets. (Deals 1000 damage)

The creatures considered summons are the ones which have lifed time, and Chen's ones life as long as someone kill them. Ok, it's ok to use a mixed Medusa, but your damage / killing itens are bad and so do your tanking itens. You're not useing the full potential of your split shot with buriza, radiance sure is the best iten to fully use that spell. Why? Because it has the better gold/damage relationship for slipt shot (you'll agree with me with some calculations) If you're a bad farmer or were ganked and so one, so Mijolnir would be a better and cheaper choise. And SnY is a total waste of gold, you can get a lot better item with that gold. About tanking... Liken Sphere is a nice iten... but BloodStone is so much better, you get much more life, mana, and the regen gained by the charges is just perfect for her. If you get a lot of disables, Liken would not be enough anyway. And one more thing, split shot is only worth when you have nice damage itens, so it's better to get purge, shield and stats before level 12, and only after that start raising split shot.

I agree with others that you have to put chain lightning 1st, for harassment, getting gold easy, and for an ensurance kill. ex. you are not able to reach your enemy with your range you can use the chain lightning to finish the job for you. Its also very effective on a sudden death matches.

I think maelstorm is a better choice, for me at least and i usually get the split shot after lvl 6 w/ only lvl purge, by the way lvling up her ulti to lvl 2-3 is useless because it has the same effect as it has on lvl 6, just get lvl 1 and it will do the trick.
